Privacy? What privacy?
|
According to Lawrence Lessig, there's a Senate race in which Jack Ryan (yeah, I know, evidently it's a real person with that name) has arranged to have his opponent followed. Constantly. Just a few feet away at all times. With a video camera. Even into restrooms. Leaving aside the question of whether politicians need to be scrutinized that closely, do we really want to elect someone whose view of privacy is that warped? Sure, the action is probably legal.. after all, it only documents what happens in public... but we need a lot more than technical legality. Scandal politics won't get our rights back. |
